NAPLAN Past Papers Free Download (Years 3, 5, 7 & 9) | Omishaan

Australia's Official NAPLAN Past Papers in One Place

NAPLAN past papers are the actual test booklets administered in previous years and officially released by ACARA (Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority). They are the gold standard for exam preparation because they show the real question types, difficulty levels, and domain coverage your child will face in March 2026.

Important for 2026: NAPLAN is now fully online and adaptive for Years 3, 5, 7 and 9 (Year 3 Writing remains paper-based). Past papers are paper-format, so use them to master content and question logic, then use our online mock tests to practise the digital environment.

Combine past papers with our adaptive online tests for full 2026 exam readiness.

NAPLAN Past Papers — Year 3

Year 3 is the first NAPLAN sitting. Use these official ACARA past papers to familiarise your child with the Reading, Language Conventions, and Numeracy domains. Note that Year 3 Writing remains paper-based in 2026 — practise handwriting as well as typed responses.

Want more Year 3 resources? Visit the dedicated NAPLAN Year 3 Practice Hub for topic-wise drills, online mock tests, and vocabulary flashcards.

NAPLAN Past Papers — Year 5

Year 5 marks a significant step up in complexity. The Writing domain moves fully online and requires confident typing under a 40-minute limit. Download NAPLAN Year 5 past papers below, then use our Year 5 online mock tests to practise the digital environment.

Head to the NAPLAN Year 5 Hub for digital writing practice, adaptive mock tests and vocabulary lists.

NAPLAN Past Papers — Year 7

Year 7 introduces a split Numeracy format — Calculator and Non-Calculator sections. All four domains are now fully online. Download NAPLAN Year 7 past papers to master question complexity, then build digital speed with our Year 7 online practice tests.

How to Use NAPLAN Past Papers Effectively

Simply downloading past papers is not enough. The most effective preparation combines past papers with targeted topic practice and realistic online simulation.

  1. Download one full past paper set for your child's year level. Print all four sections or complete them on screen. Gather the answer keys from the same page.
  2. Sit under timed exam conditions. Use the official time limits: Reading (45–65 min), Language Conventions (45 min), Numeracy (45–65 min), Writing (40 min). Minimise interruptions to simulate test-day pressure.
  3. Mark and record domain scores. Note how many marks were lost in each area (Reading, Numeracy, Language Conventions, Writing). Identify the weakest domain.
  4. Target the weakest domain with topic-wise drills. Use Omishaan's Topic Hubs to practice specific skills — not whole papers — until you see improvement.
  5. Take a full online mock test. Our online mock tests mirror the 2026 adaptive digital format. Compare your mock score against your paper score to see growth.
  6. Repeat the cycle every 2–3 weeks until the March test window. Consistent, spaced practice produces significantly better outcomes than last-minute cramming.

Topic-Wise Practice Hubs

Past papers show what went wrong. Our topic hubs fix why. Drill down into a single skill area for targeted improvement across all year levels.

Frequently Asked Questions About NAPLAN Past Papers

Answers to the most common questions parents and students ask about downloading and using NAPLAN past papers for exam preparation.

Where can I download free NAPLAN past papers?
You can download free NAPLAN past papers directly from this page — no sign-up required. We host the official ACARA-released test PDFs for Years 3, 5, 7 and 9 from 2008 to 2016. Simply scroll to your child's year level section above and click the download links.
Are NAPLAN past papers still relevant for the 2026 digital test?
Yes, with one caveat. The content tested — reading comprehension, grammar, spelling, numeracy reasoning — has not changed significantly. Past papers from 2012–2016 remain excellent for building content mastery and learning to manage time within each domain. However, the 2026 test is fully online and adaptive, so pair past-paper work with our online mock tests to practice the digital question format as well.
Why does ACARA only release past papers up to 2016?
ACARA retains test papers from 2017 onwards for item banking — questions from those years may be reused or adapted in future assessments. This is a standard practice for national testing programs worldwide to maintain test integrity.
Do the past papers come with answer keys?
Yes. Every past paper download above links to the associated official marking guide. For the Writing test, we also provide a simplified Marking Criteria Guide on our Writing Hub to help parents assess their child's responses at home.
How many past papers should my child complete before NAPLAN?
For most students, completing 3–5 full past paper sittings — spaced across several weeks — is more effective than trying to rush through every year in a short period. The key is to review each paper carefully and do targeted topic drills between sittings. Use our 6-step study strategy above as your guide.
What is the difference between a NAPLAN past paper and a practice test?
A NAPLAN past paper is an actual test used in a previous year and released by ACARA. A practice test (like those on Omishaan) is purpose-built to replicate the style, difficulty, and adaptive format of the current online assessment. Both are valuable — past papers for authentic question exposure, and practice tests for 2026 digital-format readiness.
Is there a NAPLAN past paper for Year 3 writing?
Yes. The Year 3 writing stimulus prompts are included in the official ACARA past paper packages linked above. Year 3 Writing remains paper-based in 2026, so handwriting practice alongside these prompts is recommended. See our NAPLAN Writing Hub for Narrative and Persuasive writing guides for Year 3.
